Something is better than something else bullshit

Oftentimes, something is better than something else. Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas wines are, indeed, generally better than Côtes du Rhône labeled wines. Conversely, contentions that Châteauneuf-du-Pape is better than Gigondas are pure bullshit. Measures of quality between the two appellations, based on anything other than price, do not pass any bullshit litmus test.

Oak treatment as an expression of terroir bullshit

Yes, more than a few individuals allege such bullshit. Vintage differences alone refute such contentions. Consider, for example, a well-regarded Bordeaux house that applies a consistent oak regimen across vintages. Rustic vintages can stand up to such an approach, but more delicate vintages evoke sensations of tasting a little red wine with your oak.

Drink what you like; you are your own expert bullshit

People should drink what they like, so no bullshit there, but associating like with expertise is total bullshit. Liking contrived fruitiness, heavy oak treatment, or high alcohol does not equate to expertise. Conversely, liking ‘less is more’ expressions of place that feature restraint, higher acid, and lower alcohol, aligns with expertise.
